FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 9, 2005 --
Things are beginning to heat up around the issue of licensure! The grass roots
effort this summer by both the AMTA and PaBTA members have created a lot of
momentum. First, our bill in the House of Representatives is House Bill 1643. The
prime sponsor is
Representative Keith McCall. There are 66 co-sponsors of the bill. We need as
many people as possible to ask their Representative to support the bill and ask the Chairman of
the House Professional Licensure Committee,
Thomas P. Gannon, to bring our bill
up for a vote by the Committee.
Senator Constance Williams is circulating a co-sponsorship memorandum
to introduce companion legislation to House Bill No. 1643 in the Senate. Once Senator
Constance Williams introduces the bill, it will be identical to HB1643–except it
will get a Senate Bill number.
The AMTA is going to make calls and write letters to all fifty (50) Senators to ask
them to co-sponsor Constance Williams’ DRAFT legislation. I would ask PaBTA
members to do the same.
We also need people to call their own State Senator to ask them to co-sponsor
her proposed massage therapy licensure bill. This should happen as soon as
possible because we
think she wants to introduce her bill before the Rally on October 26, 2005.
We are having a Rally in the Capitol Rotunda at 9am on October 26, 2005. Please encourage
people to come and show their support for licensure.
If anyone does not know who their State Senator or House of Representatives
member is, see our
legislation page under services
and enter your zip code in appropriate field on that page.
Hope to see you on October 26, 2005,
